Unique Cat Names – 60+ Cute & Cold Name For Your Cat

When we brought our cat home from the animal shelter, she nestled in the palm of my hand. She seemed so small and helpless. I worried about how she would ever thrive. But this kitten was a survivor. She and her two siblings had been found by a hiker after their mother had been hit by a car. There is no telling how long they’d been out there without food or shelter. The other two didn’t survive but this feisty fur ball had clung to life at the staff fed her with an eye dropper and kept her warm with a heating pad.

What to call her? I thought of cute cat names. A helpful friend presented me with a cat names list. When trendy, cool female cat names seemed too cutesy for this little trooper, I turned to unisex names. Nothing seemed just right. So, I decided to sleep on my decision.

Happy kitten

I read somewhere that naming your new pet is one of the best ways to welcome it into your family. But the list of possibilities is simply mind-blowing. I also read that asking friends and family for suggestions is a fun activity. It also widens the field of possible names.

A popular way to pick a name for your new feline friend is to think of past beloved pets from your childhood. You might name your cat after a family pet or a relative. Since I wanted the name to fit, I avoided the possibility of naming my pet after a famous person like: Teddy or Grover or Calvin or Eleanor or Barbara for famous presidents or first ladies.

1. Best Unique Cat Name

My kitten was unique. She’d survived a horrendous beginning. She even looked unique. Her fuzzy gray fur made her look Persian. But, she had a black raccoon-like mask and her ears were black. Clearly, she was a mixed breed from her black paw to her almost bristly tail. So I set out to research unique cat names. Here are some I discovered.

My friends suggested I study my cat in motion. They thought these would be great names to describe a cat:

  • Pouncer

I thanked them for their suggestions. While each was unique none of these seemed to capture exactly what made my feline companion different from all the rest, So, I continued my research to find just the best, most unusual named for my unique cat.

Conclusion

Whether you are searching for a unique cat name or one which just naturally seems to capture the essence of your feline friend, you can be sure your friends will have all sorts of suggestions.

While I appreciated everyone’s efforts, I knew I wasn’t there yet.

Besides the defining personality, coloring or specific markings, a cat’s name might also reflect its heritage. For example, if I had an Egyptian Mau I could have come up with mysterious names from that area.

In the end, I was taken by my cat’s tiny stature and her ability to survive against odds. I turned—as I often do—to the literature of my childhood. I’ve always admired the pluck and size of the little creatures in The Wizard of Oz. That’s why I named my cat Munchkin. However, my research and the kind offerings of my friends are not wasted. Munchkin is soon to acquire a companion and I have a whole list of potential names from which to choose.
